Throughout my career, I've consistently found myself in roles where I translate between different worlds - technical and business, complex and simple, theory and practice. These stories showcase how I bridge gaps to create solutions that work for both systems and people.
Rather than just listing skills, these examples demonstrate how I apply my diverse background to solve real problems that require both technical understanding and human insight. Each story follows a Challenge-Solution-Impact format to show concrete results from my bridge-building approach.
As co-founder of Pro Appliance Installation, we needed to streamline client intake and enhance our online presence while managing complex scheduling, dispatch, and customer communication workflows. The business required both digital solutions and operational efficiency.
I designed and maintained the company website while developing business procedures that integrated digital tools with field operations. I connected technical web development capabilities with real business needs, ensuring the online experience translated to seamless service delivery and satisfied customers.
Created a cohesive client experience from initial web contact through service completion. The integrated systems I built continue to support the business today - it remains successful and profitable with efficient operations and strong customer satisfaction ratings.
IBM's Developer Jumpstart program needed someone to lead two 8-person teams creating advanced workshop materials for the Drone 2.0 project. This required coordinating technical content creation while ensuring the materials would be effective for diverse learning styles and skill levels.
I applied my teaching background to break down complex technical concepts while using project management skills to coordinate team efforts across multiple time zones. I translated between technical requirements and practical workshop delivery, ensuring the content was both technically accurate and pedagogically sound.
Successfully delivered workshop materials that enabled other developers to learn advanced concepts efficiently. Received recognition from Program Manager Duncan Cowell for demonstrating "passion, compassion, and enthusiasm" in supporting transformative learning experiences for both teams.
At IBM, acquired company's technical documentation didn't match IBM's style standards, creating confusion for internal teams and external users accessing critical AI/Data tools. The manual conversion process was time-intensive and prone to inconsistencies.
I created a Python script that automated the conversion process while ensuring human readability. This required understanding both the technical requirements of the documentation system AND the user experience needs of Content Designers who would use these tools daily. I combined programming skills with documentation standards knowledge and UX thinking.
Streamlined documentation consistency across teams, reduced manual conversion time by approximately 80%, and improved accessibility for Content Designers using the tools. The automation allowed the team to focus on higher-value work while maintaining quality standards.
Teaching software development to adult learners through university partners required adapting complex technical curricula for students with varying backgrounds and learning styles. Many students were career changers with limited programming experience but strong motivation to succeed.
I combined my technical programming knowledge with adult learning principles to create engaging, accessible instruction. I used interactive breakout rooms, hands-on coding exercises, and real-world project examples to connect abstract programming concepts to practical applications students could relate to.
Successfully guided multiple cohorts through comprehensive full-stack development programs, maintaining high engagement and completion rates. Students consistently provided positive feedback on the clarity of instruction and practical applicability of lessons, with many successfully transitioning to developer roles.
The Common Thread
In every role, I excel at seeing how technical capabilities can solve real human problems. I don't just implement solutions - I ensure they work for the people who use them, whether that's developers learning new skills, customers navigating software, teams coordinating complex projects, or businesses optimizing their operations.
This ability to bridge domains - technical and business, complex and accessible, individual and organizational - is what makes me uniquely valuable in hybrid roles that require both depth and breadth.
